Asper Centre Public Interest Lunch – Substantive Equality in Sentencing

The Asper Centre recently intervened in two cases before the Ontario Court of Appeal (ONCA) involving the criminal sentencing of marginalized people. In R v Morris, the ONCA considered the appropriate manner in which systemic factors should shape the sentencing framework for Black Canadians. Morris was convicted of possession of illegal firearms.
